For those of you who are not familiar, LinkedIn is a social media site for professional use, which essentially brings your resume to life, and provides professionals with the opportunity to network in a more formal online setting than say, Facebook. 



"Is it a job search engine"?

 Yes, and no. LinkedIn offers users the option to job search, as well as to post jobs, but has many other useful features as well. Even if you are not actively looking for a job, it is nice to have access to real-time offers in your area that pertain to your industry (& others!), and to stay in the loop. 


"How does it work as a professional networking tool if it is online"?


 LinkedIn offers its users the option to 'Connect' with professionals from all over the world, from all industries, at the click of a button- if they accept, and vice versa.

 I have personally received invitations from locals to grab coffee, or to interact via email. It makes networking effortless. 

It is also fantastic for maintaining relationships with professionals that you want to stay in touch with, but do not want on your personal social media pages, such as Facebook or Twitter. It provides a professional outlet for interaction and socialization.
